McFaddin-Ward House Hosts 2nd Annual SOAR Celebration This March
Beaumont, TX; Feb. 16, 2024 – This March, the McFaddin-Ward House will present the 2nd Annual SOAR Celebration, a month-long colorful display of butterflies throughout the outdoor campus, highlighted by an admission-free SOAR Family Day on Sunday, Mar. 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the museum’s grounds (1906 McFaddin Ave., Beaumont).
SOAR Family Day will feature family activities, live music performances by the Community Band of Southeast Texas and Rustic Bird, food trucks, picnicking on the grounds, garden and butterfly related crafts, local artist Butterfly Garden display, butterfly ride-on bikes, the Houston Museum of Natural Science Bug Cart, booths from the Sabine-Neches Master Naturalists and Tyrell Park Nature Center, and more. Adding to the festive spring spirit, a large, colorful assortment of soaring butterflies will be on display throughout the outdoor campus all month long.
“Engaging with our local community is an important part of the museum’s vision, and our annual SOAR Celebration provides the opportunity to bring awareness to the McFaddin-Ward House, its history, and mission through a vibrant, bold, and delightful outdoor installation while inspiring growth and emergence in our community through visual arts, education, and enrichment,” said Tony Chauveaux, McFaddin-Ward House executive director. “We look forward to welcoming the community back for our second year, which is set to be even bigger.”
Other SOAR offerings during March will be a fun-filled Texas Trivia Night on Thursday, March 14, hosted by Brandon Long of The Know Show Trivia. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and favorite snacks, and prepare to test their knowledge of the Lone Star State during four rousing rounds of family-friendly Texas trivia on the lawn of the historic McFaddin-Ward House. Prizes will be awarded for each round and overall for the night. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the event starts at 6:30 p.m. All SOAR events are admission-free and open to the public. In case of inclement weather, SOAR Family Day/Texas Trivia Night will be cancelled.
Built in 1905-1906 in the distinctive Beaux-Arts Colonial style, the McFaddin-Ward House reflects the lifestyle of the prominent family which lived in the house for 75 years. The museum features free tours, educational programming, year-round events, a carriage house, and gardens.
