Beaumont, TX; March 6, 2023 – More than 700 Southeast Texans joined the McFaddin-Ward House to kick off the museum’s inaugural butterfly-themed community celebration at SOAR Family Day on Sunday, Mar. 5.
Held on the McFaddin-Ward House grounds, SOAR Family Day featured Butterfly Bikes, live music, picnicking on the grounds, booths from the Sabine-Neches Master Naturalists and Houston Museum of Natural Science Bug Cart, a butterfly garden created by local artists, crafts, family activities, and more. Adding to the festive spring spirit, a large, colorful assortment of soaring butterflies is being displayed throughout the outdoor campus all month long and includes three areas of community participation – an Artist Garden, Family Garden, and Selfie Station.
“Deepening connections and engagement with our local community is an important part of the museum’s vision,” said Tony Chauveaux, McFaddin-Ward House executive director. “SOAR provides us the opportunity to bring awareness to the McFaddin-Ward House, its history, mission, and vision through a vibrant, bold, and delightful outdoor installation while inspiring growth and emergence in our community through visual arts, education, and enrichment. It is our intention that SOAR become an annual spring event for which the museum will be known.”
During the month, the McFaddin-Ward House will host a variety of special events, including its popular “Music at the McFaddin’s” events, featuring “Backporch Friends Dulcimers” on Friday, Mar. 10, and music and dancing with “Night and Day Orchestra” on Thursday, Mar. 30. Gates open at 6 p.m. and music begins at 6:30 p.m. on the museum’s lawn (1906 McFaddin Ave., Beaumont). Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, food, and drinks to enjoy the live music.
All SOAR events are free and open to the public. Call 409.832.2134 or visit mcfaddin-ward.org for more information.
