Don’t miss the story of Lovey Marie Guillory and her ancestors, a unique and intimate story of one African American family through particularly dramatic periods of triumph and turmoil in American history.

Lovey Marie Guillory’s book tells the story of her family —one of the prominent “free black” or Creole families in Louisiana— through seven generations, from their time in antebellum Louisiana through her own childhood. It chronicles the family’s personal takes on slavery, war, exile, and Jim Crow laws, a captivating history that spans more than 250 years. Guillory will also sign copies of her book “Born On The Kitchen Floor in Bois Mallet.”

This lecture is free and open to the public. It will take place August 6th at the McFaddin-Ward Lecture Hall, at 1906 Calder Avenue. Doors open at 6 o’clock, the lecture begins at 6:30 p.m.
