Jimmy Simmons & Friends to Perform at McFaddin-Ward House Outdoor Concert Oct. 18
Beaumont, TX; Oct. 4, 2024 – The McFaddin-Ward House invites the community to enjoy an evening of fantastic sounds on its beautiful grounds at Music at the McFaddins’ featuring Jimmy Simmons & Friends, an admission-free outdoor concert event, on Friday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m.
Simmons and his band will perform of a wide variety of classics from the big band era through modern day hits. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and refreshments as they gather on the historic home’s lawn at 1906 McFaddin Avenue in Beaumont. Gates open at 6 p.m.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Jimmy Simmons and his outstanding group of musicians back to the McFaddin-Ward House for what is sure to be another unforgettable evening” said Tony Chauveaux, McFaddin-Ward House executive director. “Jimmy is a community treasure with a gift for speaking the language of music to all ages and sparking the rhythm of the beat in music lovers everywhere.”
A member of the faculty and leadership team at Lamar University for more than four decades and President Emeritus of the university, Simmons is an accomplished musician and talented orchestra leader with an active performance career spanning beyond his tenure at Lamar. Skilled on saxophone, piano and clarinet, he currently performs with a varied group of musicians at venues around the state.
Simmons said performing at the McFaddin-Ward House is “one of the band’s favorite gigs.”
“[The band] loves the atmosphere…the crowd is so receptive, and it’s such a great evening,” Simmons said. “It’s a wonderful time for people to get together and enjoy an evening of good music and camaraderie.”
In case of inclement weather, Music at the McFaddins’ will be cancelled.
The Music at the McFaddins’ series will continue on Friday, Nov. 1, with a performance by swamp pop legend, Jivin’ Gene Bourgeois, accompanied by the band Eazy.
Built in 1905-1906 in the distinctive Beaux-Arts Colonial style, the McFaddin-Ward House reflects the lifestyle of the prominent family which lived in the house for 75 years. The museum features free tours, educational programming, year-round events, a carriage house, and gardens.
