McFaddin-Ward House to host annual Holiday Open House Dec. 3 & 10
Beaumont, TX; Nov. 27, 2023 – The McFaddin-Ward House invites the Southeast Texas community to delight in the spirit of the season at its annual Holiday Open House – for the first time offering two weekend dates to attend on either Sunday, Dec. 3, or Sunday, Dec. 10, from 5-7 p.m. at 1906 Calder Avenue in Beaumont.
Guests will enjoy festive refreshments, live music, and children’s crafts at the museum’s Visitor Center prior to crossing the street to admire the exterior of the historic house. Along the way, carolers will be performing outside beneath the twinkle of holiday lights. Once inside, visitors can view the magnificent holiday decorations throughout the first floor, as traditional Christmas music is played on the Music Room’s grand piano, and before departing, guests will meet a special visitor from the North Pole.
This year’s holiday interpretation – Glitz Up the Tree: A Glamorous Holiday with the McFaddins – will immerse guests in the elaborate decorating traditions of an elegant and extravagant McFaddin Family holiday party. Shining silver dinnerware and décor, sparkling crystal, glamorous party clothes, and other special items from the reserve collection will be on display.
“This year represents a unique experience with not only the opening of our holiday interpretation, but also the reopening of the museum itself following our recent electrical upgrade,” said Victoria Tamez, McFaddin-Ward House curator of collections. “Ida and W.P.H. McFaddin welcomed many guests throughout the years, and the family and staff decorated the home for every occasion. This holiday season, museum visitors will enjoy a glimpse of the McFaddin family’s legendary hospitality and observe historic holiday ornamentation and the social custom of decorating one’s home for holiday guests.”
Built in 1905-1906 in the distinctive Beaux-Arts Colonial style, the McFaddin-Ward House reflects the lifestyle of the prominent family which lived in the house for 75 years. The museum features free docent-led tours of the home, educational programming, year-round events, a carriage house, and gardens.
