Beaumont, TX; Sept. 20, 2022 – The McFaddin-Ward House invites the community to enjoy live entertainment on its beautiful grounds at Music in the Gardens – Jazz & Juleps featuring Jimmy Simmons & Friends, a free outdoor music event, on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 6:30 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, and snacks as they gather on the historic home’s lawn at 1906 McFaddin Avenue for an evening of great tunes and community fellowship. Gates open at 6 p.m. Tours of the first floor of the home will be provided from 6 -7:30 p.m.
“The McFaddin-Ward House gardens provide a relaxing atmosphere to experience both natural splendor and great entertainment, and guests may join the spirit of the festive jazz concert by mixing and bringing a Mint Julep to enjoy,” Tony Chauveaux, McFaddin-Ward House executive director, said. “Jimmy Simmons is an exceptional musician and well-loved community figure with a great group of musicians that are sure to provide an unforgettable evening for jazz fans of all ages.”
In case of inclement weather, Music in the Gardens will be cancelled.
Upcoming events also include the continuation of the McFaddin-Ward House’s 2022-23 Lecture Series. On Wednesday, Oct. 5, the museum is teaming up with Lamar University for Revival of Extinct Native Cultures – The Karankawas, and on Thursday, Oct. 20, the museum will present The Culture of America, featuring an overview of the nation’s finest folk and traditional artists. Lectures begin at 6:30 p.m.
All events are free and open to the public.
Built in 1905-1906 in the distinctive Beaux-Arts Colonial style, the McFaddin-Ward House reflects the lifestyle of the prominent family which lived in the house for 75 years. The museum features docent-led tours of the home, educational programing, year-round events, a carriage house, and gardens.
