Mamie McFaddin Ward, the only daughter of Ida Caldwell and WPH McFaddin, lived in the McFaddin-Ward house from 1907 until her death in 1982. In 1978, Mamie established the Mamie McFaddin Ward Heritage Foundation to preserve the house and its contents as an educational and cultural resource. Thanks to her foresight, the foundation provides funding for museum operations, as well as other charitable projects in Southeast Texas.
The McFaddin-Ward House was built in 1905-06, during Beaumont’s prosperous years after the Spindletop oil boom. The building and its furnishings reflect the lifestyle of the prominent family that lived in the house for 75 years.
Today, visitors receive guided tours of the home, which is furnished with all-original pieces. Trained guides combine family anecdotes and local history with information about the house and its furnishings to tell the story of the McFaddin-Ward family and its era.
