SUMMARY:Music at the McFaddins’ Outdoor Concert featuring Curse and the Cure
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, October 8\, for an evening of soulful sounds on our beautiful grounds at Music at the McFaddins’ featuring Curse and the Cure. Gates open at 6 p.m. with music beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the McFaddin-Ward House lawn (1906 McFaddin Ave.\, Beaumont). \nCurse and the Cure—husband and wife acoustic duo Jason and Norma Touchette—will showcase their incredible range\, amazing harmonies\, and dynamic vocals across a wide variety of genres and familiar hits ranging from Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles to 90s country and TLC. \nThe Port Neches natives have been performing together locally\, nationally\, and internationally since February 2014. They have opened for national and regional acts such as Reba McEntire\, the Charlie Daniels Band\, and Pat Green. \nThe concert is admission-free and open to all ages. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House Museum for “The Texas Sports Revolution: How the Lone Star State Changed the Culture of American Athletics\,” a free public lecture presented by Frank A. Guridy on Thursday\, October 15\, at 6:30 p.m. in the Museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (1906 Calder Avenue\, Beaumont). \nAward-winning historian and author Frank A. Guridy will explore how the United States became a sports-crazed nation during the 1960s and 70s\, emphasizing the decisive role Texas-based athletes and sports entrepreneurs played in the country’s dramatic transformation. \nGuridy is an accomplished scholar whose research has focused on sport history\, urban history\, and the history of American social movements. Currently\, he serves as a professor of history at Columbia University in New York City. \nHe is the author of numerous scholarly works on the intersection of sports\, society\, and politics\, including the books The Stadium: An American History of Politics\, Protest\, and Play (2024) and The Sports Revolution: How Texas Changed the Culture of American Athletics (2021)\, and has provided commentary on a wide variety of podcasts\, radio\, and TV programs. \nMcFaddin-Ward House Museum lectures are admission-free and open to the public\, but space is limited.
