DESCRIPTION:RESCHEDULED: \nJoin the McFaddin-Ward House for “USA vs Art Thieves: True Tales from the FBI’s Real Indiana Jones\,” a free public lecture presented by retired FBI agent Robert Wittman on Friday\, May 17\, at 10 a.m. in the museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (located at 1906 Calder Avenue in Beaumont). \nOne of the most famous art detectives in the world\, Wittman will share tales from the trenches of his long career solving art crimes with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. \nAfter joining the FBI as a Special Agent in 1988\, Wittman received specialized training in art\, antiques\, jewelry\, and gem identification\, enabling him to serve as the FBI’s investigative expert involving cultural property crime. During his 20-year FBI career\, Wittman recovered more than $300 million worth of stolen art and cultural property and has represented the United States throughout the world\, conducting investigations and instructing international police and museums in recovery and use of high asset value security techniques. \nIn 2010\, Wittman penned his New York Times bestselling memoir “PRICELESS: How I Went Undercover to Rescue the World’s Stolen Treasures”. \nMcFaddin-Ward House lectures are free and open to the public\, but space is limited. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House for “A Stitch in Time: Historic Textiles for Museums\, Movies and Designers\,” a free public lecture presented by Rabbit Goody on Thursday\, Oct. 10\, at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (located at 1906 Calder Avenue in Beaumont). \nInternationally known textile historian\, designer and master weaver Rabbit Goody will detail the fascinating process of creating historically accurate textiles for museums\, movies and clothing companies. \nIn conjunction with the lecture\, Goody will offer a free Textile Identification Clinic for the community to be held at the Visitor Center on Friday\, Oct. 11\, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (reservations recommended). \nFor the past three decades\, Goody’s studio\, Thistle Hill Weavers located in Cherry Valley\, New York\, has been weaving luxurious custom fabrics for the museum field\, the film industry and designers of home décor and clothing lines. \nAs owner and operator of Thistle Hill Weavers\, Goody has created historically accurate textiles for historic houses such as George Washington’s Mount Vernon\, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and The Lincoln Birthplace. Her studio has also produced custom fabrics for numerous films\, including “Master and Commander” (2003)\, “Lincoln” (2012)\, “Road to Perdition” (2002) and “Winter’s Tale” (2014). \nA respected historian of American textiles with a remarkable ability to re-animate the past through fabric\, Goody is also the founder and director of the Textile History Forum and serves as consultant to museums and the film industry. As Chief of Staff to First Lady Laura Bush\, she directed the first lady’s travels to 67 countries in four years and became one of the longest-serving women in White House history. McBride has also served in senior roles under Presidents Ronald Reagan\, George H. W. Bush\, and George W. Woodruff curator of the Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody\, Wyoming\, since 2020. DESCRIPTION:The McFaddin-Ward House will present the 3rd Annual SOAR Celebration in March 2025. This month-long vibrant display of butterflies across the outdoor gardens will feature several exciting events beginning with the admission-free SOAR Family Day on Sunday\, March 2\, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The festive springtime event includes live music performances by “Fire & Rain” and “Crossroads Band\,” food trucks\, picnicking on the grounds\, family activities\, garden and butterfly related crafts\, local artist Butterfly Garden display\, butterfly ride-on bikes\, the Houston Museum of Natural Science Bug Cart\, booths from All Saints Episcopal School\, Beaumont Botanical Gardens\, Beaumont Public Library System\, Big Thicket National Preserve\, Magnolia Garden Club\, Moore Honey Observation Hive\, Sabine-Neches Texas Master Naturalists\, Tyrrell Park Nature Center\, and more. \nSOAR Family Day will also kick off the museum’s new “Mac the Caterpillar” community art project. Artists of all ages are invited to paint a garden rock and add it to “Mac the Caterpillar\,” which will “grow” along the sidewalk in front of the museum’s Visitor Center at 1906 Calder Ave. in Beaumont. Rocks will be available at the museum\, or participants may provide their own. “Mac” will be on display until March 30. \nOther new SOAR offerings during March will be SOAR Saturdays (3/8\, 3/15 & 3/22) featuring live piano music played on the McFaddin-Ward House baby grand piano during admission-free tours of the historic home and SOAR Ceramics China Painting Classes held in the museum Visitor Center on 3/8\, 3/15 & 3/22. SUMMARY:SOAR Celebration “Mac the Caterpillar” Community Art Project
DESCRIPTION:This March\, join us in our new SOAR Community Art Project “Mac the Caterpillar.” Artists of all ages are invited to paint a garden rock and add it to Mac the Caterpillar\, which will “grow” into a butterfly along the sidewalk in front of the McFaddin-Ward House Visitor Center at 1906 Calder Ave. in Beaumont. \nParticipants may pick up a rock at the museum or provide their own.  Decorated rocks can be added to Mac all month long. Painting supplies not provided. Share your artistic skill and help Mac grow with all the colors of the butterfly! \nBe sure to take a selfie with your rock when you add it to Mac and share on social media! Tag @mcfaddinwardhouse \nMac will be removed March 31. Participants may pick up their rocks on March 30.

SUMMARY:SOAR Family Day
DESCRIPTION:This March\, the McFaddin-Ward House will present the 3rd Annual SOAR Celebration\, a month-long vibrant display of butterflies throughout the outdoor gardens that will feature several special events beginning with the admission-free SOAR Family Day on Sunday\, March 2\, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the museum’s grounds (1906 McFaddin Ave.\, Beaumont). \nSOAR Family Day will include live music performances by “Fire & Rain” and “Crossroads Band\,” food trucks\, picnicking on the grounds\, family activities\, garden and butterfly related crafts\, local artist Butterfly Garden display\, butterfly ride-on bikes\, the Houston Museum of Natural Science Bug Cart\, booths from All Saints Episcopal School\, Beaumont Botanical Gardens\, Beaumont Public Library System\, Big Thicket National Preserve\, Magnolia Garden Club\, Moore Honey Observation Hive\, Sabine-Neches Texas Master Naturalists\, Tyrrell Park Nature Center\, and more. Adding to the festive springtime spirit\, a colorful outdoor installation of soaring butterflies will be on display throughout the grounds all month long. \nSOAR Family Day will also kick off the museum’s new “Mac the Caterpillar” community art project. Artists of all ages are invited to paint a garden rock and add it to “Mac the Caterpillar\,” which will “grow” along the sidewalk in front of the museum’s Visitor Center at 1906 Calder Ave. in Beaumont. Rocks will be available at the museum\, or participants may provide their own. “Mac” will be on display until March 30. \nOther new SOAR offerings during March will be SOAR Saturdays (3/8\, 3/15\, 3/22 & 3/29) featuring live piano music played on the McFaddin-Ward House baby grand piano during admission-free tours of the historic home and SOAR Ceramics China Painting Classes held in the museum Visitor Center on 3/8\, 3/15 & 3/22. SOAR Ceramics participants will be provided all materials to paint a small butterfly dish. Cost per participant is $25. Registration is required at 409-832-2134. Reservation deadline is Feb. 17. \nThe month-long celebration will also include an admission-free Music at the McFaddins’ event featuring The Stringbenders\, a Houston-based group performing a mix of country\, rock-n-roll and Zydeco-style music\, on Friday\, Mar. 28. Gates open at 6 p.m. with music beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the McFaddin-Ward House lawn (1906 McFaddin Ave.\, Beaumont).
