DESCRIPTION:The McFaddin-Ward House Museum invites the community to a special display of rare and classic automobiles on May 8 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Visitor Center parking area (1906 Calder Ave.\, Beaumont). \nThe striking collection of noteworthy cars will include several iconic Ford models\, such as a 1913 Ford Model T Wide Track\, 1936 Ford Phaeton V8\, and 1968 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR. DESCRIPTION:Former FBI Special Agent and art crime expert Robert Wittman is back by popular demand with an all-new lecture\, “The Three F’s of Art Crime: Frauds\, Forgeries and Fakes\,” on Thursday\, April 10\, at 6:30 p.m. in the McFaddin-Ward House Visitor Center Lecture Hall (located at 1906 Calder Avenue in Beaumont). \nOne of the most famous art detectives in the world\, Wittman will share thrilling stories from his FBI investigations into some of the largest and most captivating fraud cases in the art and collectible world and offer invaluable insights and practical tips on sophisticated fraudster protection. \nAfter joining the FBI as a Special Agent in 1988\, Wittman received specialized training in art\, antiques\, jewelry and gem identification\, enabling him to serve as the FBI’s investigative expert involving cultural property crime. During his 20-year FBI career\, Wittman recovered more than $300 million worth of stolen art and cultural property. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House for “History With A Bang: Firearms Of The American West From The Well-Known To Where’d It Come From?\,” a free public lecture presented by Danny Michael on Thursday\, Feb. 20\, at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (located at 1906 Calder Avenue in Beaumont). \nCody Firearms Museum Curator Danny Michael will showcase the storied historical firearms of the American West—from the more recognizable frontier guns to the oddities used by outlaws\, lawmen and everyone in between—and share how technological advances and firearm innovations influenced the American Frontier. \nMichael has served as the Robert W. Woodruff curator of the Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody\, Wyoming\, since 2020. In addition to his curatorial and research work\, he co-founded the “Arsenals of History” symposium\, which brings together museums and firearms historians from around the world\, and serves on the Editorial Board of “Armax: the Journal of Contemporary Arms.” \nMichael holds a master’s degree in public history from the University of Louisville and has appeared on the television series “Gun Stories” and “Guns & Ammo TV” as a historical firearms expert. \nIn conjunction with the lecture\, Michael will offer a free Firearms Identification Clinic for the community to be held at the Visitor Center on Thursday\, Feb. 20\, at 5 p.m. Please note all guns brought for identification must be unloaded and secured in a case. \nMcFaddin-Ward House lectures are free and open to the public\, but space is limited. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House for “First Ladies: Impact and Legacies\,” a free public lecture presented by Anita McBride on Thursday\, Jan. 16\, at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (located at 1906 Calder Avenue in Beaumont). \nInternationally recognized author and former White House staffer Anita McBride will share her extensive expertise on first ladies and the innerworkings of the White House\, along with insights from her acclaimed book\, “Remember the First Ladies: The Legacies of America’s History-Making Women\,” which showcases the evolving role of the first lady and its historical influence on the American presidency. \nIn her two decades of White House service\, McBride saw firsthand the unique influence of first ladies on American politics\, policy and global diplomacy. As Chief of Staff to First Lady Laura Bush\, she directed the first lady’s travels to 67 countries in four years and became one of the longest-serving women in White House history. McBride has also served in senior roles under Presidents Ronald Reagan\, George H. W. Bush\, and George W. Bush. \nCurrently\, McBride is Executive-in-Residence at the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies in the American University School of Public Affairs in Washington\, DC\, and is a founding member of the University’s First Ladies Association for Research and Education. \nIn 2023\, she co-authored “Remember the First Ladies: The Legacies of America’s History-Making Women\,” as well as a first of its kind textbook\, “U.S. First Ladies: Making History and Leaving Legacies.” A limited number of McBride’s books will be offered for sale at the lecture. \nMcFaddin-Ward House lectures are free and open to the public\, but space is limited. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House for “On The Neches with MARAD and The Reserve Fleet: MARAD Operations in the Western Gulf Gateway\,” a free public lecture presented by Brian Hill on Thursday\, Nov. 14\, at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (located at 1906 Calder Avenue in Beaumont). \nBrian Hill\, director of the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) Western Gulf Gateway Office\, will provide an overview of the MARAD operations in our area and discuss the role of the Beaumont Reserve Fleet berthed on the Neches. \nBased in Houston\, Hill has served as Western Gulf Gateway director since 2012\, overseeing all ports\, waterways and intermodal connections and corridors in Texas\, Colorado and New Mexico. He is responsible for working with Texas ports and other intermodal industries and agencies to improve and strengthen the U.S. marine transportation system. \nA retired Coast Guard commander and Coast Guard attorney\, Hill holds a Juris Doctor (JD) Law degree from the St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami and a master’s degree in security studies (homeland defense and security) from the Naval Postgraduate School. \nMcFaddin-Ward House lectures are free and open to the public\, but space is limited. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House for “A Stitch in Time: Historic Textiles for Museums\, Movies and Designers\,” a free public lecture presented by Rabbit Goody on Thursday\, Oct. 10\, at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (located at 1906 Calder Avenue in Beaumont). \nInternationally known textile historian\, designer and master weaver Rabbit Goody will detail the fascinating process of creating historically accurate textiles for museums\, movies and clothing companies. \nIn conjunction with the lecture\, Goody will offer a free Textile Identification Clinic for the community to be held at the Visitor Center on Friday\, Oct. 11\, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (reservations recommended). \nFor the past three decades\, Goody’s studio\, Thistle Hill Weavers located in Cherry Valley\, New York\, has been weaving luxurious custom fabrics for the museum field\, the film industry and designers of home décor and clothing lines. \nAs owner and operator of Thistle Hill Weavers\, Goody has created historically accurate textiles for historic houses such as George Washington’s Mount Vernon\, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and The Lincoln Birthplace. Her studio has also produced custom fabrics for numerous films\, including “Master and Commander” (2003)\, “Lincoln” (2012)\, “Road to Perdition” (2002) and “Winter’s Tale” (2014). \nA respected historian of American textiles with a remarkable ability to re-animate the past through fabric\, Goody is also the founder and director of the Textile History Forum and serves as consultant to museums and the film industry.
