DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House Museum for “Mostly Texas: Robert Rauschenberg at 100\,” a free public lecture presented by Kristen Clevenson on Thursday\, August 13\, at 6:30 p.m. in the Museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (1906 Calder Avenue\, Beaumont). \nKristen Clevenson\, assistant curator at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in New York City\, will explore the extraordinary life and legacy of Texas-born artist Robert Rauschenberg (1925-2008)\, showcasing the innovative works of one of the most daring and impactful artists of the 20th century\, with special attention to his “mostly Texas” disposition. \nBorn in 1925 in Port Arthur\, Rauschenberg pushed the boundaries of what defines art for six decades\, working in a diverse range of mediums\, including painting\, sculpture\, photography\, printmaking\, and performance. Throughout his trailblazing career\, he highlighted his Texas roots in numerous artworks. In October 1993\, Rauschenberg signed a letter to then-Governor of Texas\, Ann Richards\, “Love from me in Florida + mostly Texas\,” underscoring his affinity for the Lone Star State. \nClevenson has served as assistant curator at the New York-based Robert Rauschenberg Foundation since 2019. She recently curated Robert Rauschenberg: Signs and Signals (1964–94) at the Foundation\, and her research has been published by Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery. \nIn 2022\, Clevenson received her master’s degree in art history from Hunter College\, City University of New York. She also holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia. \nIn conjunction with the lecture\, the McFaddin-Ward House would like to invite a limit of 30 guests to a free guided tour of the Robert Rauschenberg exhibit at the Museum of the Gulf Coast on Friday\, August 14 at 10 a.m. Reservations are recommended to hold your place. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House Museum for “Extreme Sports in Historic Small Boats\,” a free public lecture presented by Pieter Roos on Thursday\, July 16\, at 6:30 p.m. in the Museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (1906 Calder Avenue\, Beaumont). \nMaritime historian Pieter Roos will bring to life the thrilling stories of fast boats from the 19th and early 20th centuries\, highlighting the daring sportsmen and women who guided uniquely designed vessels to high speeds and victory. From unstable state-of-the-art “sandbagger” sailboats to nimble ice scooters and pioneering powerboats\, each boat showcases the innovation\, intensity\, and fearless spirit of sailing on the edge. \nFor more than four decades\, Roos has worked as a museum professional in New York\, New Jersey\, and New England\, serving on the staff of a wide range of institutions\, including Historic Hudson Valley\, Old Sturbridge Village\, Mystic Seaport Museum\, and the Newport Historical Society. \nThe majority of Roos’ career has been focused in the leadership role of executive director\, a prominent position he held at both the Newport Restoration Foundation in Newport\, Rhode Island\, and at the Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford\, Connecticut. \nCurrently\, Roos is the professor of museum administration at the Cooperstown Graduate Program in Museum Studies in Cooperstown\, New York.  In addition to his work life\, Roos is a landscape artist specializing in seascapes\, and for over 30 years\, he has been carving half models of boats and ships. \nRoos holds a master’s degree from the Cooperstown Graduate Program at the State University of New York and a B.A. in anthropology from Drew University. \nMcFaddin-Ward House Museum lectures are admission-free and open to the public\, but space is limited. Dudley will also explain how these impressive ships helped shape world events and impacted history in the 20th century. \nSince the age of four\, Dudley has been fascinated by ocean liners. Throughout his life\, he has researched the captivating history of these wonderful ships in museums and libraries across the country and has acquired a personal library of more than 200 ocean liner-related books\, as well as a vast collection of ocean liner memorabilia. \nDudley has made several transatlantic crossings on the France\, the Queen Elizabeth 2\, and the Queen Mary 2\, experiencing the wonders of an ocean liner voyage first-hand. One of the paintings on display depicts the HMHS Britannic\, which was built by White Star Line and launched in 1914. The younger sister of the RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic\, Britannic was intended to enter service as a transatlantic passenger liner but was lost during World War I.

As a working rose breeding and growing operation\, the Emporium’s story — shared by co-owner Jim Keeter Jr. — traces its rise from humble beginnings to national recognition and how its legacy inspires a bold\, blooming future for roses and gardeners alike. \nKeeter developed a lifelong love of plants and sustainable landscapes while earning his Bachelor of Science degree in range land ecology and management at Texas A&M University in 1983. Luce Center for the Study of American Art\, will give a glimpse into the exceptional artistry\, symbolism\, and history of 19th century American silver\, highlighting exquisite pieces in The Metropolitan Collection. From grand vessels that graced the homes of affluent patrons to intimate domestic\, ecclesiastical\, and personal items\, each piece tells a story. \nIn conjunction with the lecture\, Harvey will offer a free Silver Identification Clinic for the community to be held at the Museum Visitor Center on Thursday\, April 16\, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (reservations recommended). \nFor the past three decades\, Harvey has held roles in American Decorate Arts at The Met. In her current positions as Ruth Bigelow Wriston curator of American Decorative Arts and manager of the Henry R. Luce Center for the Study of American Art\, Harvey oversees the collections of American silver\, jewelry\, and other metalwork\, as well as mid-19th-century furniture. Previously\, she contributed to The Met’s 2009 and 2011 reinstallations of the American silver and jewelry collections and the exhibition “Silversmiths to the Nation” (2007). \nHarvey is co-author of Early American Silver in The Metropolitan Museum of Art (2013) and a contributing author for American Silver in the Art Institute of Chicago (2016). Her most recent publication\, Collecting Inspiration: Edward C. Moore at Tiffany & Co. He began his career in citrus right after high school and continued on in the industry through devastating freezes\, uncertainty\, and change. \nMurden has held numerous positions within the citrus industry\, including farm manager and general manager at Rio Farms\, Inc. and general manager of Precision Orchard Services and Bob Smith Grove Care Companies. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House Museum for “Beyond Belief: The Transformation of Saint Anthony Cathedral Basilica\,” a free public lecture presented by Russell “Rusty” Chimeno on Thursday\, January 15\, at 6:30 p.m. in the Museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (1906 Calder Avenue\, Beaumont). \nRussell “Rusty” Chimeno\, lead docent tour guide at Beaumont’s iconic Saint Anthony Cathedral Basilica\, will explore St. Anthony’s multi-million-dollar restoration which enhanced the breathtaking beauty of the treasured Texas historic landmark. \nCompleted in 1907 to serve the rapidly growing Beaumont community\, St. Anthony was proclaimed a Minor Basilica by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006 in recognition of its historical and architectural significance. \nChimeno is a longtime parishioner at St. Anthony\, where he attended the parish school as a child and served on the staff in the 1990s. During his 13-year tenure as chief financial officer of the Catholic Diocese of Beaumont\, Chimeno oversaw the financial aspect of St. Anthony’s repairs and renovations. Today\, he serves St. Anthony as lead docent\, sharing the history and symbolism of the Cathedral Basilica with visitors from across the world. \nIn 2022\, Chimeno\, who holds a master’s degree in business administration\, retired as firm administrator for Mehaffy Weber\, P.C. after 14 years of service. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House Museum for “Lost\, Unknown\, and Then Found: The Great Museum of the Sea\,” a free public lecture presented by James Delgado on Thursday\, Nov. 13\, at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (1906 Calder Avenue\, Beaumont). \nMaritime archaeologist\, television host\, and award-winning author James Delgado will take a deep dive into fascinating undersea mysteries and how they are solved\, peering into storied shipwrecks and detailing undersea exploration. \nThe ocean is the largest museum on earth with more than a million lost ships resting in its depths\, some dating back millennia\, and Delgado has spent decades working around the globe in this fascinating world through underwater exploration. He has worked on some of the most famous shipwreck sites in history\, including the Titanic\, the lost fleet of Kublai Khan\, the USS Arizona\, the fabled “ghost ship” Mary Celeste\, and the atomic bombed fleet at Bikini Atoll. His expeditions have solved long-lasting undersea mysteries and connected the modern world with powerful\, human stories from the past. \nDuring his 46-year career\, Delgado has served as executive director of the Vancouver Maritime Museum\, as both executive director and president of the Institute of Nautical Archaeology\, and as director of the Maritime Heritage Program for the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries. He also hosted the popular television documentary series\, The Sea Hunters\, for its full six-season run. \nDelgado holds a Ph.D. in Archaeology from Simon Fraser University. Judge Branick will follow with an overview of modern hurricane forecasting and current emergency response strategies in Southeast Texas. \nA certified archivist with a master’s degree in applied history\, Kelly began her archival career at the Galveston & Texas History Center\, located in Galveston’s Rosenberg Library\, where she worked closely with 1900 Storm collections and researchers. She has co-edited an award-winning book on the notorious hurricane\, Through a Night of Horrors: Voices from the 1900 Galveston Storm\, and her archival outreach on the subject was recognized with a national award from the Society of American Archivists. Since 2020\, Shelly has worked as an independent researcher\, writer\, and oral history consultant. \nJudge Branick is a former attorney and partner at Provost Umphrey Law Firm. He has served as the elected county judge of Jefferson County since assuming office in 2011. Over the past 14 years\, he has worked tirelessly on coastal erosion protection and hurricane storm surge protection for coastal residents. Woodruff curator of the Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody\, Wyoming\, since 2020. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House for “On The Neches with MARAD and The Reserve Fleet: MARAD Operations in the Western Gulf Gateway\,” a free public lecture presented by Brian Hill on Thursday\, Nov. 14\, at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (located at 1906 Calder Avenue in Beaumont). \nBrian Hill\, director of the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) Western Gulf Gateway Office\, will provide an overview of the MARAD operations in our area and discuss the role of the Beaumont Reserve Fleet berthed on the Neches. \nBased in Houston\, Hill has served as Western Gulf Gateway director since 2012\, overseeing all ports\, waterways and intermodal connections and corridors in Texas\, Colorado and New Mexico. He is responsible for working with Texas ports and other intermodal industries and agencies to improve and strengthen the U.S. marine transportation system. \nA retired Coast Guard commander and Coast Guard attorney\, Hill holds a Juris Doctor (JD) Law degree from the St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami and a master’s degree in security studies (homeland defense and security) from the Naval Postgraduate School. \nMcFaddin-Ward House lectures are free and open to the public\, but space is limited. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House for “A Stitch in Time: Historic Textiles for Museums\, Movies and Designers\,” a free public lecture presented by Rabbit Goody on Thursday\, Oct. 10\, at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (located at 1906 Calder Avenue in Beaumont). \nInternationally known textile historian\, designer and master weaver Rabbit Goody will detail the fascinating process of creating historically accurate textiles for museums\, movies and clothing companies. \nIn conjunction with the lecture\, Goody will offer a free Textile Identification Clinic for the community to be held at the Visitor Center on Friday\, Oct. 11\, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (reservations recommended). \nFor the past three decades\, Goody’s studio\, Thistle Hill Weavers located in Cherry Valley\, New York\, has been weaving luxurious custom fabrics for the museum field\, the film industry and designers of home décor and clothing lines. \nAs owner and operator of Thistle Hill Weavers\, Goody has created historically accurate textiles for historic houses such as George Washington’s Mount Vernon\, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and The Lincoln Birthplace. Her studio has also produced custom fabrics for numerous films\, including “Master and Commander” (2003)\, “Lincoln” (2012)\, “Road to Perdition” (2002) and “Winter’s Tale” (2014). \nA respected historian of American textiles with a remarkable ability to re-animate the past through fabric\, Goody is also the founder and director of the Textile History Forum and serves as consultant to museums and the film industry. Earlier this year\, she was featured in “Smithsonian Magazine.” \nMcFaddin-Ward House lectures are free and open to the public\, but space is limited. DESCRIPTION:Join the McFaddin-Ward House for “The Washington National Cathedral:  A Testament in Stone to Craftsmanship and Artistry\,” a free public lecture presented by Kevin Eckstrom on Thursday\, Sep. 12\, at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (located at 1906 Calder Avenue in Beaumont). \nWashington National Cathedral Chief Public Affairs Officer Kevin Eckstrom will explore the rich history and stunning art and architecture of the National Cathedral\, detailing its origins in embracing George Washington’s Vision for “A Great Church for National Purposes” and highlighting its impressive collection of artwork. \nAs a member of the Cathedral’s executive team\, Eckstrom serves as editor-in-chief of the award-winning “Cathedral Age” magazine and works with the dean and chief operating officer to advance the Cathedral’s core mission and develop programs to build audiences and awareness for the Cathedral. \nEckstrom holds degrees from The George Washington University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He is also the author of the Cathedral’s “Now and Forever” windows book and a member of the Advisory Council of the President Woodrow Wilson House in Washington\, DC. \nMcFaddin-Ward House lectures are free and open to the public\, but space is limited.
